We are going to be visiting family who live just outside of Boise. I’m looking for things to do with small children (2&6). Nothing too expensive, dangerous, or boring. Also, we’re looking for a Fourth of July parade and fireworks show to see.
There are some nice parks (Julia Davis & Ann Morrison) in Boise. The Boise River runs through town, and you can float it. There is a zoo (not very impressive, but for a 2 year old it’s great). There is Roaring Springs water park & Wahooz Family Fun Center (miniature golf, go carts, etc) in Meridian.
There are lots of hikes/walks to do (Foothills, Reserve and TableRock). There are several YMCA centers (and the Nampa Rec Cetner) that have nice aquatic centers (pools, fountains, slides, etc). And there is is the Natatorium (?) that has some outdoor water slides too. Oh, and free air conditioning is available at the Mall (Boise Town Square).
There are usually fireworks in Simplot Stadium in Caldwell (about 25 miles west of Boise) and at Hawks stadium just outside of Boise (Garden City). There is usually a parade in Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Middleton and a few other places. Many times the parades and fireworks are not necessarily on the 4th – sometimes they do them on the 3rd or the 2nd or even the 5th. You can check out http://www.idahostatesman.com & http://www.ktvb.com and look at their sections on upcoming events.
There is lots to do in Boise! It is a big city(for Idaho) You will find a parade or two, lots of good food, shopping and things for the kids. Boise is a really nice city.
I understand a lot of people who visit Boise like to spend their time looking for ways to escape from Boise.
The best thing in Boise is the airport. It gets you the hell out of there!
Watch the grass grow.
